Protecting Our Environment

At Womersley Foods, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability in all aspects of our operations. We recognize the importance of preserving our planet for future generations and strive to integrate environmentally responsible practices into every facet of our business.

We are therefore very keen to do our little bit to protect the world we live in, today and for the future, within the constraints of being a food producer.

As a family, we have all grown up enjoying our gardens and the abundance of fruit and herbs we harvested over generations. We strive to be a responsible business, caring for the environment in as many ways as possible, throughout the whole process of production and distribution.

There will always be opportunities to do more, but here are a few of the ways we manage this:

Key Principles:

  1. Sustainable Sourcing: We source our ingredients from suppliers who share our commitment to sustainable agricultural practices, ethical sourcing, and fair-trade principles as best as possible.

  2. Reducing Waste: We are dedicated to minimizing waste throughout our production process. This includes implementing recycling programs, reducing packaging materials, and exploring innovative ways to repurpose or reuse by-products.

All our retail bottles are made using recyclable glass. We buy our bottles from a large-scale supplier to reduce the "per bottle carbon footprint."

Our 1 litre bottles are made of recyclable PET plastic.

All our cardboard packaging used for shipping goods are fully recyclable.

When shipping goods to our customers, we use a laser printer for shipping labels to reduce paper use.

All office paper/glass/plastic and other recyclable waste are recycled.

We use recyclable and biodegradable bubble wrap for shipping.

For safely shipping and protecting customer orders, we use loose fill “chips” made of corn starch which are biodegradable and conform to EN13432, making them suitable for homes or municipal compost. They dissolve in water which eliminates the problem of littering. Starch is an annually renewable resource, not a depleting resource like petrol-chemical based polystyrene.

  3. Energy Efficiency: We continually strive to improve energy efficiency in our facilities by investing in energy-efficient equipment, optimizing production processes, and reducing energy consumption wherever possible. We also encourage employee awareness and participation in energy-saving initiatives.

  4. Carbon Footprint Reduction: We are actively working to reduce our carbon footprint by optimizing transportation routes, minimizing packaging materials, and exploring renewable energy sources. We aim to offset our remaining emissions through carbon offset programs and initiatives.

  5. Continuous Improvement: We are committed to ongoing assessment and improvement of our environmental performance. We regularly review our practices, set measurable targets, and engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement.

By adhering to these principles and working collaboratively with our stakeholders, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
